Jaipur 2 Day Itinerary: Forts, Bazaars and Food (with a Cab Plan)

A practical 2 day Jaipur itinerary covering Amber Fort, Jal Mahal, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Nahargarh sunset and the best bazaars, with timings and a simple cab plan.
Two days is the sweet spot for a first visit to Jaipur. You get time for the big forts, the old Pink City, a sunset view and a proper Rajasthani dinner without rushing. Here is the plan our drivers suggest to most families and couples.
Day 1: Amber Fort, Jal Mahal and Nahargarh sunset
- Morning – Amber Fort. Start early, ideally when the fort opens, to beat the heat and the crowds. Give it 2–3 hours. Read our Amber Fort guide before you go.
- Jal Mahal photo stop. On the way back to the city, stop at the lake promenade for the classic photo of the “water palace”.
- Afternoon – lunch and rest. Try dal baati churma or a Rajasthani thali, then rest at the hotel during the hottest hours.
- Evening – Nahargarh Fort. Drive up for sunset over the whole city. It is the best view in Jaipur.
- Dinner. Chokhi Dhani for a village-style evening with folk dance, or a rooftop restaurant in the old city.
Day 2: City Palace, Hawa Mahal and the bazaars
- Morning – City Palace and Jantar Mantar. They are next to each other; plan about 3 hours for both.
- Hawa Mahal. See the famous facade from the street, then climb inside for the view over the bazaar.
- Afternoon – shopping. Johari Bazaar for jewellery and Bapu Bazaar for textiles, mojaris and souvenirs.
- Snack stop. A pyaaz kachori and a kulhad lassi are a must in the old city.
- Optional evening. A leopard safari at Jhalana (book in advance) or a relaxed walk at Patrika Gate.
Getting around: the simple cab plan
Jaipur’s sights are spread out, so a private cab with a driver saves a lot of time. For two days, a Sedan for up to 4 people starts from about ₹3,500 in total on our Jaipur 2 Days Heritage Tour, with hotel pickup and drop. Families with luggage usually prefer an Ertiga or Innova Crysta.
Useful tips
- Buy the composite monument ticket if you plan to visit several monuments – it usually works out cheaper than separate tickets.
- Wear comfortable shoes; Amber Fort and Nahargarh involve slopes and stairs.
- October to March is the most pleasant season. In summer, start at 7–8 AM and keep the afternoon free.
- Carry some cash for small shops and street food.
